Hydrotherapy is the use of water in any form internally or externally in order to support optimal wellness. Scientifically speaking, hydrotherapy stimulates the body’s ability to heal by manipulating temperature and altering the rate of blood flow throughout the body. Recently, using hydrotherapy to raise the core body temperature or the temperature in a localized region of the body (referred to in the medical literature as hyperthermia) has gained popularity in the treatment of disease, but hydrotherapy has been used for centuries to address a variety of disorders.
Scientifically speaking, hydrotherapy stimulates the body’s own ability to heal by manipulating temperature, which activates the immune system and alters the rate of blood flow throughout the body.
At Focus Integrative Healthcare, we use hydrotherapy to support optimal wellness in a variety of different cases, including:
- acute illnesses like colds and the flu,
- other conditions where modulating the immune system would be beneficial such as autoimmune disorders and various types of cancer;
- conditions where calming the nervous system would be beneficial such as anxiety and insomnia;
- cases of digestive disorders such as chronic indigestion, Crohn’s disease, and ulcerative colitis;
- inflammatory conditions such as arthritis;
- conditions where cleansing and detoxification would be of benefit such as Hashimoto’s, PCOS, addiction recovery support, and fertility support;
- and more.
Your doctor may recommend hydrotherapy for you if indicated.
Initial Consultation FAQs
We currently offer the steam cabinet procedure as our preferred method of hydrotherapy. Under certain circumstances, we also offer wet sheet wraps and hot fomentations as in-office procedures at Focus Integrative Healthcare, as well as fever baths as in-home procedures (home visit stipulations and fees apply).
We aim to allow the hot and cold applications to come as close to bare skin as possible (as hydrotherapy tends to be most effective when performed on bare skin), while also observing principles of modesty which will minimize exposure of bare skin during your procedure. Females have the option of receiving the majority of hydrotherapy procedures that we provide either on bare skin or wearing a thin sports bra or swim suit top if it makes them feel more comfortable. Males may wear swimming trunks for their hydrotherapy procedures.
You can expect to spend 45 minutes at each steam cabinet session and 60 minutes at each fomentation, fever bath, or wet sheet wrap procedure.
At Focus Integrative Healthcare, we are committed to providing each of our clients with exceptional care. If you cancel without giving enough notice, you are preventing others from being seen during your scheduled appointment time. In order to ensure that we make the best use of our time and are able to provide you with the best care possible, we require 48 hours notice received during our normal business hours for canceled or rescheduled appointments. If you fail to notify us of a missed therapy appointment 48 hours before your scheduled appointment time, you will be charged the full cost of the therapy appointment. If you reschedule your appointment without giving 48 hours advance notice, you will be required to pay the no-show/late cancellation fee before your appointment can be rescheduled.
